Policy

Loyola University New Orleans provides staff employees the opportunity to indicate their interest in open positions and advance within the institution according to their skills and experience. Job posting is a way to inform employees of openings and to identify qualified and interested applicants who might not otherwise be known to the hiring manager. Generally, notices of all regular, full-time job openings are posted for at least five working days before they are filled, unless the position is filled from within the hiring department. Loyola University reserves its discretionary right to not post a particular opening.

Loyola University recognizes the benefit of developmental experiences and encourages employees to talk with their department head about their career plans. Department heads are encouraged to support employees’ efforts to gain experience and advance within the institution, even if that means “losing” an employee to another department.

Procedure

Job openings will be posted in binders located in the Department of Human Resources reception area, and on Loyola University’s Human Resources Web Page. Each job posting notice will include job title, department, location, job summary, essential duties, and required education, skills, experience and abilities.

To be eligible to apply for a posted job, an employee must have performed for at least 180 calendar days in his or her current position and must not be on a current performance improvement plan.

To apply for an open position, current employees should submit a Loyola Internal Application and a current resume to the Department of Human Resources. Human Resources will notify the responsible hiring departmental head of employees who have expressed interest in a position and who meet the minimum requirements for the position for consideration and possible interview.

An applicant’s department head may be contacted to verify performance, skills, attendance and suitability for the position sought. Any staffing limitations or other circumstances that might affect a prospective transfer may also be discussed.

Internal candidates will be considered for vacant positions for which they are qualified. Other recruiting sources may also be used to fill open positions in the best interest of the institution. Loyola University New Orleans retains the right to use its sole discretion to determine the most appropriate candidate for the position.
